March 14, 2013 – The Rotary Club of Smith Mountain Lake has presented Jim McKelvey with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship. Jim McKelvey is well known for his development of Park Place and other commercial properties around the lake. However, he was selected for the award due to his civic contributions to the community. These include being a major sponsor for the Ronald McDonald House, the Lions Club Youth Golf Tournament, providing heavy equipment for the lake cleanup, participating in the Jim Cameron Walk, and funding high school scholarships including the Alex Ernandes Scholarship for the Franklin County High School and numerous others.
