The Rotary Club of SML continues to sell and install emergency dock signs on Smith Mountain Lake owners’ docks. These dock signs provide the homeowner or business street address, making it much easier for visitors and emergency fire and EMS personnel to find your dock or home by water.
Dock signs are available for $27 each. If you wish, Rotarian volunteers will install the sign for you at an additional charge of $18. For only $45 you can have the peace of mind of knowing that friends and emergency personnel, traveling by water, can reach your dock more easily.
Those who have traveled on the water by boat know how difficult it can be to locate a person’s residence or dock. In an emergency, every second counts when medical or fire personnel are needed. On Smith Mountain Lake, it is sometimes faster for emergency personnel to reach a residence or business by boat than it is by automobile.
All of our local fire, emergency medical and water safety personnel highly encourage lake residents to have a dock sign with their street address as an additional measure of safety. Most homes and docks are not marked from the water. Often, this leaves the SML fire and rescue personnel with only their knowledge of the lake and its markers to locate your dock or home.
These aluminum signs are green with white letters and are similar in appearance to our local street signs. Proceeds from the purchase of the signs help the Rotary Club of SML continue their charitable work in the lake community.
Club members will install the dock signs throughout the spring, summer and early fall.
